The 4 of August Pacifism Day. On this day in 1909, Leo Tolstoy gave a speech at the Stockholm Peace Conference. He set out the fundamental ideas of pacifism and voiced his support for conscientious objectors to the military service. |

On this day in 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous «I have a dream» speech in front of a civil-rights rally of several thousands during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. A year later, the Congress passed Civil Rights Act that prohibited segregation. |
